Gaustatoppen is renowned as one of the most beautiful mountains in Norway. It lies just south of the village of Rjukan. Around 30,000 tourists make the journey to the summit annually. The peak lies almost 1900 metres above sea level, and when the weather is clear you can see as far as Sweden and one sixth of the land mass of Norway. There is a stone cabin at the top where you can buy drinks and snacks. There is a car park at around 1000 metres, from where it is a two hour trek to the highest point.
