Friaren Waterfall stands on the opposite bank of the Geirangerfjord to the more celebrated Seven Sisters waterfall and is one of the many sights of the beautiful region. You can get a view of the waterfall, whose name means "The Suitor" in Norwegian, from the ferry that runs the narrow channel between Geiranger and Hellesylt. The fall divides to reveal a rockface that resembles a bottle. The popular story associated with the fall is that the "suitor" frustrated by his unsuccesful attempts to woo the Seven Sisters across the water, turned to drink in despair.
