The Factory Girls lies to the north of Oslo city centre, not far from the University Hospital. It is sited on a popular river walk, on a bridge by Hønse Lovisa Hus. The sculpture is a realistic depiction of working women from the period of industrialization in Norway. Life was exceptionally hard for ordinary people during this period of Nordic history, and conditions were some of the worst in Scandinavia. The struggle of women is commemorated in this bronze sculpture by Ellen Jacobsen unveiled in 1986.
