This is an open air museum which is located on the edge of Steinkjer. It is based around the old county governor’s mansion, which was built in 1919. This now houses the museum administration and hosts various exhibitions. The rest of the museum is made up of eleven buildings that give insights into the agricultural and commercial activity of the region in the past. Animals are kept here and demonstrations of various traditional activities take place. There is a cafe and a shop.
