Colin Archer was a shipbuilder of Scottish ancestry who built his reputation in the Norwegian town of Narvik. He designed ships known for their quality and durability. Most notably he built the ship "Fram" which took part in expedition’s to both the North and South Poles, in the latter case as the vessel used by Roald Amundsen. He founded the boat yard in Larvik in 1870. His house lies by the harbour.
