The venerable Church of Our Lady is a striking building that lies in the heart of historic Trondheim. The oldest parts of the structure are medieval and date back to the twelfth century. It has been extensively rebuilt and altered, not least as a consequence of a major fire in the eighteenth century. After this event, the tower and spire were added as part of a major restoration. The eastern part of the church is the oldest, and contains runic inscriptions etched into the walls that date back eight hundred years.
