Bryggen is the heart of the popular tourist city of Bergen. It is a collection of wooden buildings with brightly painted facades. The harbour side location is the most popular spot for visitors to enjoy a drink or meal at one of several cafes and restaurants. The buildings are medieval and are one the most famous urban developments in Europe. The nearby Bryggens museum explores their history. They originally housed traders of the Hanseatic port. Bryggen is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
