Bærums Verk lies about eight kilometres from the city centre of Oslo, and is accessible by bus. The charming ironworks was constructed in 1610 on the orders of Christian IV, then King of Denmark and Norway. It has ceased its original function and now hosts around fifty shops, restaurants and galleries. There are also workshops for traditional handicrafts. There is a sculpture park here that mounts changing exhibitions. There is a small museum. Guided tours of Bærums Verk are available by appointment.
