Bragernes Market is the largest in Scandinavia and adds a lively atmosphere to the central square of Drammen, which is overlooked by the dramatic neo-Gothic church, and leads down to the river. The market sells a range of fresh agricultural produce produced locally, as well as a range of crafts and consumer goods. The market square was laid out in 1866, during the reconstruction of central Drammen, when it was devastated by fire. Most of the striking buildings around it were built in the decade that followed.
