Located to some miles to the west of Voss, Bolstad is the only place in the municipality that grants the visitor direct access to the sea. By the fjord you will find traditional half-timbered boat houses and a museum dedicated to the history of the timber floating trade that once thrived here. There is also a recreational area where you can take a swim. Watching the boat traffic on the Bolstad fjord is fascinating. From the Middle Ages until recent times this comprised the main way to travel from east to west Norway.
