The magnificent Bodø cathedral dominates the city centre. It was completed in 1956 and is a triumphant mix of modern design with strong traditional influences. The main body of the church is a basilica in neo Gothic style. It contains a twelve metre stained glass window, ten tapestries made locally, and a rose window. The dramatic steeple and spire are entirely detached from the church building.
