Bjørkedalen is an idyllic settlement, divided into a northern and southern part each side of the lake Bjørkedalen Water. It is located in the Volda municipality in Sunnmøre, south of Ålesund. The village has long been a centre for boatbuilding, and it is possible to go on a sightseeing trip in the beautiful boats traditionally crafted here. Also of interest to keen walkers is the Old Post Route, established during the eighteeenth century, which leaves from the southern part of the settlement and leads to a holy cross erected to the memory of Saint Olav.
