Birkelunden is a park that is located about a mile to the northeast of Oslo city centre. It is one of the most popular parks in the city. It lies between Paulus Church and Gruenerløkken school. The attractively landscaped gardens were laid out in the 1860s. There is a music pavillion here which was added in 1926. The park is occasionally a venue for concerts and other events. The area around the park is a conservation area, consisting of historic nineteenth century apartments. A bric a brac market is held here on Sundays.
