Bakklandet lies just across the Old Town Bridge from the historic centre of Trondheim, on the east bank of the river Nid. It was originally the district inhabited by the working class but has since become gentrified. It is made up of charming wooden buildings many beautifully restored, and is an attractive mixture of residential accommodation and interesting shops.
