Austrått lies just to the south of Opphaug. It is one of the oldest manors in Norway. The estate can trace its history back to the Viking period. The building we see today was completed in the 1650s by Ove Bjelke, the Norwegian Chancellor. Guided tours of the beutifully preserved house, which is full of valuable furniture, furnishings and decoration, are available during the summer months. The highlight of Austrått is chapel, which lies at the heart of the building. Parts of it date from the twelfth century. It contains medieval carvings and a pulpit, altarpiece and paintings from the seventeenth century.
