Atrå Church lies in a small Telemark village to the north and east of the regional centre of Rjukan, and is overlooked by the dramatic and famous Gaustetoppen mountain. There has been a church on this site since medieval times. The original building was a wooden "stave church" typically associated with Norway. The present building dates to 1836. It is notable for its attractive interior, painted in floral designs by Øystein Orekås.
