Astruptunet lies on the banks of the Jølstravatn lake, renowned for its trout fishing. It was the home of the painter Nicolai Astrup, who lived between 1880 and 1928, for the last fourteen years of his life. The farm is maintained as it would have been during this period, while a barn has been converted into a gallery showing some of his important works. Much of his work is directly inspired by the landscape of the area. His work is regarded as most characteristically Norwegian of the nationally acclaimed artists.
