The Armed Forces Museum in Oslo is located near the ferry port, by the Akershus fortress. It covers all aspects of Norwegian military history from Viking times until the 1950s. The museum explores a number of themes including the union with Denmark, the union with Sweden, the German invasion in 1940 and the sea battles around Norway during World War II. The museum displays a wide range of historic artefacts, and makes use of models. It hosts occasional temporary exhibitions. It has a cafeteria and a souvenir shop.
