Arendal Town Hall lies in the historic old quarter of the city, known as Thyholmen. It is in Empire Style, and is the tallest house constructed of timber in the country. It was originally built in 1815 to house the family of Herr Kallevig, a shipping magnate. Part of the building is still furnished according to his exquisite taste. His widow sold the building to the municipality, who still use it today. It is a listed building.
