The slightly larger than life size statue of famous Norwegian writer Amalie Skram, lies on Klosteret. It was unveiled in 1949 and is the work of Maja Refsum. Amalie Skram lived between 1846 and 1903. She was born in Bergen and is regarded as one of the leading writers of here era. She was married twice, and eventually moved to Denmark with her second husband. Her works are dark and introspective, concentrating on the poverty and brutality of everyday life, and reflecting her own history of nervous debility and depression.
